Morning Yoga with my Son

Yoga with Soraya Sarcos

EspañolI woke up at 5:50am (the alarm sounded at 5:30am but because I went to bed late I couldn’t get up as planned). I turned on the coffee maker, drank some lemon water and swept the floor. I unrolled the mat over the freshly cleaned hardwood ground and started my practice. About 10 minutes later, Boli woke up, came to the living room and we cuddled for a couple of minutes. After all, that’s what yoga is about, right? Love and connection. I laid down on my back, he laid on top of me, and because he’s so tiny, I could do the arm and leg lifting with no problem. I think my Ujjayi* lulled him, because he stayed still. Then I served his milk and while he was drinking it sitting next to me I finished my practice. I invited him to join me for the final Oms, and to my surprise he starting oming too!

I’m learning to be flexible and receive with open arms what life offers me as it unfolds. I planned on waking up earlier, but instead I snoozed the alarm a couple of times. I didn’t expect to share my practice with Boli, nor to hear him Om, but oh, what a beautiful way to start the day!

*Ujjayi is a breath technique, sometimes called the “ocean breath”. The “ocean sound” is created by moving the glottis as air passes in and out.
